Disconnected operation in scientific workflow management systems
نویسنده
چکیده
Scientific workflows tend to be time consuming and data intensive, and today’s fast paced mobile culture does not afford researchers the luxury of neither sitting at a computer for days at a time, waiting for experiments. While business workflow research has addressed this issue, the solutions developed are not applicable to scientifc workflow systems, as the infrastructure of the two are not trivially interchangeable. we will explore four possible alternatives to the problem of disconnected operation in scientific workflow environmentsdecentralized, proxy, distributed, and hybrid approaches.

An Architecture for Supporting Disconnected Operation in Workflow: An XML-Based Approach
Nowadays, there exist few options to support workflow and cooperation among mobile users using non-traditional computing platforms such as Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs). Considering the growing need for mobility and the more frequent use of mobile devices, it is necessary to provide support for the integration of these to the work environments. In this work, we present the development of t...

Workflow management systems are frequently used for modeling, monitoring and controlling the coordinated execution of activities performed by workgroups in a variety of contexts. With the widespread use of portable computers and their growing computational power, conventional systems have often proved to be overly restrictive, effectively limiting the level of autonomy of the users involved. Th...
